Waiting at halfway

Quite a crowd as we await the guys at halfway. It's a stiff old climb in and out of Truro as their tired legs are getting yet another 50 mile bashing today.

A big lull before tomorrows celebrations...

3 checkpoints to go

After a very wet start, the rain is clearing and spirits are high.

We are on the A38 fllyover right by Liskeard Railway Station at the 42.2 mile mark waiting for Neil, Dave and Mark to arrive.

Today has been brilliant for them as there wasn't a clear idea of how to approach these last few days amongst them.

Their clear picture now is to finish and do so by 10am on Saturday come what may...

Mums the word

Neil's Mum Jen said she was worried at Neil doing this event but here at the thirty three mile point she is very proud indeed of her boy.

'He was always good at sport at school and did well at everything he ever did'. She adds that his diet today us not like his usual strict low fat one!

We are going as far as Bow tonight as we are looking to finish in the light on Saturday morning rather than midnight on Friday...

God's county is smiling on us right now as reaching Devon is firmly in the bag.

Wife Jeanette coming later today will help him no-end.

Taunton Bound

Passing thru the Avon Gorge and onto the A38 there is a sense of finish for the guys now.

The last couple of hundred miles and we ALL have a sense of celebration coming. As they came over the Severn Bridge earlier we all had a tear or three as the same three crossed together on
the first training weekend...

One Week!

Yes the guys have been running for over 168 hours now and that makes one week, not weak as hopefully as they need to be really strong to cover the 59 miles needed to keep them on track to Taunton...

Nice one guys...

http://www.rorycoleman.co.uk/Events_JOGLE_Results.asp?nid=82&pid=96

Cross that Bridge

As the guys leave Wales for the last time...it's nearly time for them to relive the Old Severn Bridge Crossing they did last August.

Slower this time but much more meaningful...

Raining here now so that adds a new dimension...

More in a while from the crossing...

Severn Bridge

Time for action today and also sorry that we couldn't post last night as there was NO signal on Orange, O2 or T Mobile...phone companies think on, a mast or two would help no end in these parts...

Anyway, we stopped just after twelve last night with the guys ready for supper and a warm coach. They cross the bridge thus morning and are confident still of making the Friday appointment at LE.

Dave is Mr Motivator this morning...nice one Dave!

Dark side of the Moon

Be easier getting a phone signal up there I think as this part of the world is void of all forms of telephone communication. Even the phoneboxes have no phones.

To combat this we are going to give the guys empty soup tins and string so we can keep in touch with them on this part of the stage...

http://www.rorycoleman.co.uk/Events_JOGLE_Results.asp?nid=82&pid=96

Dulux Hero

Neil from the Dulux paint centre is our hero of the day giving us fresh milk and a place to park in Hereford - top man.

Legs...

Dave has developed a problem with his left quad muscle...his Vastus Medialis muscle to be precise. The problem also known as 'Runners Knee' according to Wiki is a problem of the old Gluteus Maximus muscle causing an unusual internal rotation of the femur (well you did ask!).

Cockbain had this happen 24hrs earlier and we are starting to believe that these injuries are contageous...

What out Neil!

Let's hope the Hereford sunshine brightens the afternoon up and gets warms away the leg problems...

More later...

Very hot again!

Nearly 10.45am and it's starting to cook out here on the road. Everywhere looks so dry and the guys will find these midday hours very warm today...

Early morning and the evening is where they run best it seems. Nice blue sky above to top up the weird tanlines they are getting...

Monday Morning

Makes you understand why Bob Geldof wrote the song...on the bright side, we are into the last week of the event and somehow the guys are up and ready for action.

The A49 last night was a hard old place...three guys here will testify to that I am sure...

Please enjoying watching their progress from your desk!

Charities...

Each of the guys are running for their own particular cause and we thought you might want to donate to their charities:-

Neil Bryant
The Stroke Association and the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society

Mark Cockbain
Marie Curie Cancer in memory of Muriel

David Miles
Sport Relief

Links to the runners profiles and their charities are on www.rorycoleman.co.uk in the 9Bar JOGLE Ultra 2010 section and the links to their charities are on their individual runner pages.

Thanks for your support...

Craven Arms next...

Now we are shifting and Wales is looking nearer and nearer.

The guys are already choosing which slingbacks and partydresses to wear when we get to Lands End and party on.

Things are looking up!

Then there were three

Poor Colin has just been beaten by the time and the distance today and enough is enough for the man from Darwen.

We are of course gutted for him as he really wanted to get to Lands End. Wife Sam is glad that he is safe and is most proud of his achievements and so are we...

More in a while as the last three are due here very soon...

Ice Cold and Forty

Very chilly now the sun is on it's way down and the three in the lead group are thru the 40 mile mark.

We have yet to see how far Colin is behind but at this stage we are worried that he will soon be out of time today.

It will be a real shame if he is beaten by the clock.

Armed and Ready

Well here we are ready at JOG for the off. Everyone has now eaten and starting to get ready for bed. It's 21:13 here and yet it's still light, so that makes it tough for the runners as they really need their rest now.

There will be some photos added tomorrow as we get nearer some broadband signal.

The alarm is set for 04:15hrs...please wish them Good Luck and more from the road tomorrow...

All aboard...

All the runners are now here at the Sleeper Coach and we are about to start the long drive up to JOG. There is a great deal of excitement as well as quite a few nerves as the dream is starting to become a reality.

The next 15 days have Heaven and Hell in store for all. We like you will be watching unfurl on front of our eyes...

Scotland...here we come!

Well the crew at least have made Inverness in readiness for the 12 runners arriving on Thursday to take part in the race. We say 12 atm as Bethany Clague has been an injury doubt for the past week with calf muscle problems. She has had lots of tlc on the Isle of Man where she lives by most of the island's medical fraternity and from being in a wheelchair last week she is 90% back to fitness today and ready to 'race walk' the first couple of days until she is able to run again.

All of the runners are reporting some fitness issue right now as they have been tapering their mileage down to the event and it's a time mentally that any Ultra athlete can struggle in thinking that they are under prepared for the challenge ahead.

The first days 63 miles will sort out them out I am sure...

More from the bus in the morning as the runners arrive and please keep looking in for updates throughout the next 16 days...

Welcome to the 9Bar JOGLE Ultra 2010

Hopefully you are all as excited as we are about the first 9Bar JOGLE Ultra. With just four days till the 'off' the logistics of getting the 12 intrepid runners, crew, cook, driver and sleeper coach to Inverness are all starting to kick in.

Support vehicles, food and supplies for the journey being packed and brought together for the first attempt at getting the runners the 868 miles from John O'Groats to Lands End at circa 58 miles a day.

Souvenir running tops, maps are there for everyday use and a beautiful commemorative medal awaits those who finish.

Regular daily updates will appear here during the day, everyday showing the runners progress down the country and the runners themselves will be able to add their thoughts to show you what life is like out on the road.
