Jo has a poorly Plantar Fasciitis in her right foot and looked in real pain with 5 miles to go...

As the first day draws to a close with us parked up for the night in Brora...the runners now know what they have in store...

OMG!

Hard times

Bethany and Jo are also showing signs of tiredness and Jo has a very bad right foot right now.

It's been a long day...

Problems for Mark...

Shin splints have made Marks last few miles a nightmare and he wanted to drop out with six to go...only we wouldn't let him.

Tomorrows another day...let's hope it's not as bad as it looks...

6 to go...

And the day is nearly over for Rob and Neil as they are past the support vehicle at the 57 mile point.

Further down the field the 13% gradients are now taking their toll and the climbs are now quite painful...

The rains come in again...s

Seventeen..

Our last but one stop today and Rob Treadwell has already smashed thru with Neil, Steve, Mark and David following closely behind.

The spring sunshine has really cooked them in the last couple of hours and Marks feet are already blistered.

Waiting for the next group now...

Half way there...

Rob, Neil and Mike have got to halfway and Steve and David are just coming into the lunchstop.

The fadt pace is now been noted and the guys are thinking about a walk run strategy as they make their way onwards into a rain squall.

They are flying...

Thru 20 and there is a clear division between the hares and the tortoises. Smithy is still out in front and his shin splints don't seem to be hindering him too much so far...at the rear the girls are steadily covering the miles...

Who's got it right?

10 Miles

Mike Smith is leading the field and most happy to be 'Winning so far' as he aptly put it.

Getting to 10 miles in 1hr 35mins is probably not the best pace judgement but he did say that he would be walking after lunch.

The runners are only spread out by a couple of miles so far and Bethany is at the rear but smack on the pace...

They're Off

And they're off...

Spirits were high as the 12 runners hit the road from the start line in John O'Groats.

A bright, chilly and windy morning up here and only 868 miles to go on the first day of this amazing challenge.

All the months of training are now going to be drawn on to get the runners all the way to Lands End.

Injuries are already a consideration as Colin has a bad knee and Bethany has a bad calf strain...

Armed and Ready

Well here we are ready at JOG for the off. Everyone has now eaten and starting to get ready for bed. It's 21:13 here and yet it's still light, so that makes it tough for the runners as they really need their rest now.

There will be some photos added tomorrow as we get nearer some broadband signal.

The alarm is set for 04:15hrs...please wish them Good Luck and more from the road tomorrow...

All aboard...

All the runners are now here at the Sleeper Coach and we are about to start the long drive up to JOG. There is a great deal of excitement as well as quite a few nerves as the dream is starting to become a reality.

The next 15 days have Heaven and Hell in store for all. We like you will be watching unfurl on front of our eyes...

Scotland...here we come!

Well the crew at least have made Inverness in readiness for the 12 runners arriving on Thursday to take part in the race. We say 12 atm as Bethany Clague has been an injury doubt for the past week with calf muscle problems. She has had lots of tlc on the Isle of Man where she lives by most of the island's medical fraternity and from being in a wheelchair last week she is 90% back to fitness today and ready to 'race walk' the first couple of days until she is able to run again.

All of the runners are reporting some fitness issue right now as they have been tapering their mileage down to the event and it's a time mentally that any Ultra athlete can struggle in thinking that they are under prepared for the challenge ahead.

The first days 63 miles will sort out them out I am sure...

More from the bus in the morning as the runners arrive and please keep looking in for updates throughout the next 16 days...

Welcome to the 9Bar JOGLE Ultra 2010

Hopefully you are all as excited as we are about the first 9Bar JOGLE Ultra. With just four days till the 'off' the logistics of getting the 12 intrepid runners, crew, cook, driver and sleeper coach to Inverness are all starting to kick in.

Support vehicles, food and supplies for the journey being packed and brought together for the first attempt at getting the runners the 868 miles from John O'Groats to Lands End at circa 58 miles a day.

Souvenir running tops, maps are there for everyday use and a beautiful commemorative medal awaits those who finish.

Regular daily updates will appear here during the day, everyday showing the runners progress down the country and the runners themselves will be able to add their thoughts to show you what life is like out on the road.
